Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Name: Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc
Variety: Sauvignon Blanc
Region: Marlborough
Country: New Zealand
Year: 2012
Price: Full disclosure: I didn’t pay for this. This is around $15 online.

Winery review: “Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc is amongst the very best examples of the famous Marlborough style. Always a standout, the Wither Hills is lively on the palate with herbal gooseberry and lemon-grass flavours. A definite leader of the pack.” (Dan Murphy’s review)

My review: My roommate heard that I was in Boyer’s wine class and was doing reviews, so she’s started bringing wine home from her work for me to try. It’s great because she works at a pretty nice local restaurant whose wine list is pretty great. I’m hoping this will be a good chance for me to try some wines that I would otherwise be too cheap to buy on my own.

Anyway, this wine was awesome. I’m much better at detecting nose and flavor on whites at this point, so I didn’t look up any review at all before tasting this one. The nose was heavily citrus and slightly floral. After it warmed up a bit from being super cold in the fridge, notes of grass came out. The tasting was also citrus, acidic, and slightly floral. I would definitely have this wine again.

Stay tuned for more wine reviews from these free roommate wines!

I tasted this on its own with no food.
