Beringer Founders’ Estate Pinot Noir 2012

Name: Beringer Founders’ Estate Pinot Noir 2012
Variety: Pinot Noir
Region: California
Country: United States
Year: 2012
Price: $8 (Kroger)

Winery review: The Beringer Founders’ Estate Pinot Noir is bright ruby in color and displays ripe currant flavors rounded out by aromas of cedar and spice. This wine has immediate fruit-forward flavors that balance well with the toasty smokiness of the oak

My review: I was looking at wine and the Kroger wine guy offered his recommendations. I was trying to come in under $10 on this bottle and he said he really liked this Pinot Noir for the price. I’ve had the chance to have about half of it so far, and I really really enjoy this one. The mouthfeel is nice and crisp. It has very subdued tannins and tastes of red fruit and has some really good spice notes. It’s simple and straightforward—totally expected for under $10. It had a little sweetness to it, which was a nice balance with the rest of the wine.

My girlfriend even liked this wine and she isn’t a huge fan of reds. We had this while watching a movie paired with some spicy popcorn. It was really nice.
